Lit by a single spot Camille is every part the cabaret siren looking sultry and moody in black. She opened with 'God is in the House' to enthusiastic applause but promise of slickness ground to a halt as her mike failed for the second number which is a shame. This interruption almost broke the spell as the sound of the drinking public outside began to intrude on the inside of the Spiegletent. However Camille had numerous supporters in the audience and put on a great show of songs by Kurt Weill, Brel, Bowie, Tom Waits and Nick Cave. Some of the songs were dark, some were light but Camille imbued each rendition with her own unique interpretation, powerful voice and gripping, expressive performance. When we left the Spiegletent the Fringe was finally over and the seasons seemed to have moved forwards, as leaves blew about in the icy cold air. By John Vassallo
