Eyeball theatre set themselves the challenge of taking Elizabethan and Jacobean texts and giving them their own unique interpretation. This can involve arresting and visual physical displays augmenting texts with puppets, mask, mime, acrobatics, dance, music and circus skills. They did not use all of these in staging this play but their interpretation succeeded tremendously well and was completely captivating. The attractive cast galloped like unicorns through this unusual and story lending it the most surreal touches through the dynamic use of copious amounts of white linen to suggest walls and corridors. They also employed very versatile wardrobe and their precious craft in both was enough to suggest lunatic asylums, dungeons, thrones, beds and staircases that form the background of the play. The story was especially dark and the cast quite convincing as they took us through the tale of crossed love, obsession, hate, deceit, treachery, desire, lust, sex and murder in a most aesthetically appealing manner. Eyeball Theatre are to be congratulated for a well executed tragedy with many interesting and novel theatrical touches. By John Vassallo
