According to their website, the 'Kunst Ist Scheisse - Kabarett,' has been around since 2004 and has been successfully presented at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2007, the Melbourne Fringe 2006 and many other up and coming Australian fests and events. The performers all met at Deakin University, Melbourne, while studying contemporary arts and their show combines spoof cabaret, comedy and burlesque with some very arty stage work. This includes a scene setting spoof intro with a life size 'old woman' puppet, a jokey, fake central European visual narrative presented with shadow cut out silhouettes, fake Central European accents and some rather unusual but always interesting routines, costumes and lampoons of burlesque. It is a tribute to their abilities that they manage to draw the audience right into their rather tall and unlikely story about 'Snowmanlandia' and the ethos of the 'Caravan of Love' and maintain their well-deserved attention and goodwill to the end of this very full show. The costumes, stage design, dance, physical theatre, writing and humour behind the show are all very clever and the ladies give us several intelligent, fast paced, visually rich and funny skits that send up conservative society, pretentious art, the avant garde, Australian popular culture and all in an accessible, absurdist and entertaining way. Their mad costumes, reverse striptease, parody of Isadora Duncan, luscious looks and fierce wit, will all win you to their side. These ladies are wild, hysterical, loud, ferocious, sexy, hard working and highly talented troupers who will entice you to throw popcorn at them, shower you with balloons, spray you with rose petals and keep you thoroughly engaged and entertained right to the final curtain. 3 gold bats by John C Vassallo
