Our Dark Remit At The Edinburgh Fringe 2008

Nightnews, covering the Fringe in 2008!
We hope to back officially again for 2008. This will include the usual pre selection and recommendations list to other media; ad hoc PR work in support of shows and any special requests from artists and productions that fit the Nightnews editorial policy. So its even more dark fun than ever, picking and reviewing shows for you this year and hanging at the usual late night thesp and musical watering holes!

Our dark remit remains the same....
Nightnews is typically covering 'dark' events. These may be of a theatrical, musical or burlesque nature, also film, exhibitions and dance; we may include some comedy if sufficiently dark and in bad or shocking taste. All with select Reviews and Nightnews Bat Awards! See previous remits for 2005, 2006, 2007

Comedy has taken up 32% of the Fringe this year which is a joke in itself! Technically Burlesque should be listed in this section but in practice owing to the nature of the fringe program and the experimental nature of some productions, it will be scattered throughout the fringe categories! If you are producing or performing in a pro burlesque show, be sure to let nightnews know!

Ticket Sales and Box Office
Important
Before you commit to purchasing tickets online this year visit the Fringe Website daily for any Box Office Updates on the current state of the ticket booking, purchase, printing and collection system in 2008. This is because their new systems this year have sadly been beset with numerous unanticipated technical problems.
There is an FAQ on the issues at :: http://www.edfringe.com/story.html?id=2354&area_id=26
Say the Fringe management, 'To avoid the queues over the next few days, the Fringe recommends buying and collecting your tickets directly from the venue.' You may safely use individual venue online ticketing systems listed at their links below..

To Speak to a member of the Fringe Box Office Staff
Call 0131 226 0000 10am-6pm Monday - Saturday

E-Ticket Tent
The e-ticket tent is outside Prince's Mall in Prince's Street

Half Price Ticket Sales, Offers and Two for One Ticket Sales
The Fringe usually has exclusive 50% off tickets, 2 for 1 ticket deals and there are also many ticket deals published in the local daily newspapers. There is usually a Half Price Hut. In all instances follow instructions on the Fringe website or from the Fringe Box Office carefully this year to access these deals.

Other Offers
There are hundreds of free shows to attend from by the wholly separate PBH and Laughing Horse Free Fringes. Search for free shows in the Fringe Program. Many shows and venues will give out specially marked 'two for one' or 'free' flyers and tickets for opening nights; this is termed 'papering' a show. You can benefit from all of this by patronising venue cafe-bars and meeting show flyering teams in the High Street. There may be further 'free' ticket vouchers in the Scotsman Review supplement and other press.
